Installations with Multiple Users
For a Multi-User deployment, there are two types of computers required for the installation of RAPID Software. They include the Server and Workstation PCs. Each installation will only require one PC to act as a Server and that is where the main software will be installed. The Workstations are the PCs that the users will use to access the system. The number of Workstations needed will depend on the number of users that will be using the system.
The Server:
This is typically a PC that is beefed-up with more processing power and more memory. If a practice already owns computers with decent specs, it is possible to use one of the existing units as the server. Click here for the minimum Server specifications.
Workstations:
There are 3 Types of Workstations based on the User Type
- DC / Provider Workstation – Used by the DC or other Providers needing to create Clinical Documentations
- Tablet PCs or Touch Screen PCs are Recommended
- Regular Windows PCs could be used but some functionalities would be lost
- Click here for minimum Workstation specifications.
- Patient Kiosk Workstation – Used by the Patients for completing paperwork / Check-in Procedures
- Tablet PCs or Touch Screen PCs are Recommended
- Regular Windows PCs could be used but some functionalities would be lost
- Click here for minimum Workstation specifications.
- Front Desk / Staff Workstation – Billing and Front Office PCs – Any other PCs used by the staff
- Regular Windows PCs – No need for Touch Screen PCs
- Click here for minimum Workstation specifications.
The number and type of computers needed will depend on the size of your practice and the number of people that will be using the software.
Installations with Single User
For a single user installation, all the RAPID software components can be installed on one PC. This PC will need to run Windows Professional or Business Edition. It is recommended that it would be a Tablet or Touch Screen PC to enable the user to take advantage of all the advanced functions the system offers like signing documents electronically or annotating images and charts on the screen. RAPID Software Server
What is the purpose of a RAPID Software Server?
The server is a computer dedicated to running a centralized version of the RAPID software and database. The other computer equipment in the practice accesses the Server over a network. It is good business practice to back-up the RAPID software and database daily. Back-ups should be stored offsite to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster.
What is the difference between a workstation and a server?
Servers generally have larger hard drive capacity, more memory and a faster processor.
Does the server need to have a license of Microsoft SQL database?
No, RAPID software comes with a free license of MS SQL and it will be provided as part of the software installation. (In many cases, this is an advantage over other solutions that might require the purchase of a MS SQL license, adding to the overall cost of the system.)

RAPID Documentation only clients without the RAPID Practice Management software (i.e. No Scheduling, Billing, Collections, or Reporting) may use a Workstation rather than a dedicated Server.
