Dakota Doctor Moving RAPIDLY toward Paperless Practice

BRANDON, South Dakota, September 9, 2008 – Dixon Family Chiropractic, founded in 2000 as an acute care and maintenance/wellness practice in this Sioux Falls suburb, has implemented the RAPID Complete chiropractic software suite and is close to realizing the ideal of a paperless chiropractic practice, it was announced today by owner Dr. Myles Dixon, D.C. and Gregory T. Church, vice president of the ACOM Healthcare Business Division.

The RAPID suite, perhaps the most comprehensive solution available for chiropractic offices, is an end-to-end software system that simplifies and streamlines clinical documentation and reporting, interfacing seamlessly to the related business office software for billing, reporting, collections and other administrative tasks through a shared context-oriented database.

“The software is extremely versatile,” Dr. Dixon said. “We have been able to make our notes and reports practice-specific by modifying the text to reflect our own language and practice preferences. Other software solutions often lock the doctor into rigid text blocks, yielding a repetitive, canned presentation that does not reflect well on the practitioner and which can lead payers to wonder about the degree of attention patients have received.”

With the system in place since early 2007, Dr. Dixon has now dispensed with paper-based processes for virtually all of his chiropractic notes and reporting, establishing a fully electronic environment from the initial patient registration through the examination, diagnosis, and reporting. He plans to automate the remaining business processes, including scheduling, billing, collection and business management later this year to achieve a 95 percent paper-free practice.

On the clinical side, RAPID enables doctors to record daily notes electronically using a tablet computer and on-screen visuals such as diagrams and checklists with associated text, sending them automatically to a sophisticated, context-oriented database. The on-screen graphics can be supplemented by on-screen scribing that is similarly saved and organized in the database. Clear, well-structured interim and final reports can then be generated by the database in minutes with a few keystrokes. The business software automates all of the front office activities as well as provides a library of customizable chiropractic practice management analyses and reports.

Although still a young doctor, Dr. Dixon has an extended association with ACOM, having earlier retained the services of the ACOM Consulting Group. With education in proper coding and documentation procedures and the introduction of new business practices, Dr. Dixon was able to halve his patient load while nearly doubling practice income. When he decided to join the vanguard in converting from manual processes to paperless chiropractic software, ACOM’s RAPID was an obvious choice, he said.
